So you've signed up for your first Spartan Race and you're thinking this will be another fun obstacle race like Tough Mudder or True Grit? Maybe you're thinking this will be a good challenge for yourself and you want to see if you can get through it. Whatever you have in your mind that got you to sign up for this crazy event, you are not ready. Spartan race is unlike any other obstacle race out there, they claim to be the hardest and I would have to agree. It combines the hardest terrain with the heaviest carries and the coldest water.
How interesting does not eating for a whole 5 days sound? At first your probably think "hell no, how could anyone do that?" Surely death would happen pretty damn quick without food. Fasting has been around since the beginning of time, and is a great way to kickstart your metabolism, lose body fat, reverse diabetes and much more.
The countless hours of training and weekends sacrificed to long runs, all come down to this massive event. The planning and time spent testing food, clothing, and mindset, has all been a challenge physically and mentally. Long runs can be boring and lonely, sure you see some amazing things along the way, but sometimes you just want to go home and hang out with the cat ;)
I remember running my first kilometre run when I was about 21. This was a very difficult task, but it gradually became easier to run faster and longer until one day - I achieved the standard goal of running 5km.
